The Saint Outside the Gate

Awesome. It was intriguing how the author combined the lives and characteristics of various saints and holy fathers/mothers of our church into one single character. I believe that the main character being a female is what made a greater impact on the overall story. There are so few books available to young female readers, especially with strong, faith-based females as their protagonist. Our Church is full of beautiful examples of holy women, but little is portrayed about them in a way that will attract a young reader and perhaps even influence her to emulate their lives.

My children (13 and 8) both enjoyed this book. I am grateful that they can have something so edifying to read.
