I am a devoted coffee drinker, have been since I was at least 13. As such I tend to be quite particular about mugs. While I don’t have a single mug that I must always use for my coffee, I do insist on a diner style mug. Don’t get me wrong, it is not that I have some special affinity for the aesthetic of the diner mug, I’m ambivalent honestly. But, it does have thick walls and therefore keeps coffee hotter longer. The vast majority of mass-produced mugs are so thinly walled that my coffee ends up cold before I can start drinking it (only a slight exaggeration). The mug I ordered from Traditions pottery has a thicker wall though not quite as thick as a diner style; this however is offset by a couple of factors. First, the smaller capacity (8 oz) - while most mugs are 10 oz, this one has a great thickness to capacity ratio that ensures my coffee stays hot. Second, it is a beautiful mug. The colors, the glazing, the fact that the handle is shaped with the mug - I now have a mug for coffee.
