I am 51, and just recently got my very first pair of pointe shoes. I have wide feet (9.5W street shoe). My pointe shoes are Bloch Lisse XX width. When I was fitted, we used Capezio Ouch Pouch toe pads. But when I started actually training en pointe, the pain was very bad on my big toe, especially on my left foot. These pads are MUCH better, and they still fit nicely in my shoe. I know the package and product description says "for experienced pointe dancers", but as a beginner, I am very glad I ignored that.
