Not just for Euro Nymphing

Finally getting around to this review. My purpose for getting the Stinger Reel was to use it for backpacking. As a backpacker I am always looking for ways to both cut weight and pack volume and thought this could help with reducing the fly fishing gear weight and volume but not compromise on the fishing experience. I am also intrigued with new concepts. I loaded the Stinger with about 30-35 feet of 3wt line, about 7.5 feet of tippet, and matched to 7'6" 2/3 wt rod. Most of my casting in higher elevation waters is shorter than 30 feet so this combo worked great. I also recently took it our local casting ponds and showed it to other club members and let them use it. They all were surprised by the lightness of the combo and agreed it can serve as a nice smaller water option (2-3wt line) as well as for Euro Nymphing.
