Love the new Hive set up. Painted it inside and out for longevity. It's been very cold up on the mountain, and I can see the difference in activity between the wood hive that I have next to the Paradise unit. More bees outside earlier as they don't have to work hard to keep the nucleous at required temperature. Yes love it so far

Step-up in hive technology

The material (6 times the thermal/insulation efficiency of wood) the precision manufacturing and compatibility (inner dimensions, not the outer) with the dimensions of a Langstroth hive, including FlowHive supers, make these the long-awaited step-up if winter insulation or summer heat are a challenge. I am gradually replacing deteriorating wood boxes with these and so far I am very happy with them. Two pieces of advice - three coats of (water-based) paint because bees and ants love eating polystyrene, and have a good supply of food-grade acrylic epoxy resin on hand. After painting, coat the rims to provide a glass-like surface where the boxes interface otherwise they tend to stick and hive tools are no friend of polystyrene. Also the boxes will get dinted and the resin is an excellent repair medium.
