I bought this non-skid mat as added assurance that the mat will stay in place. My mother walks with two canes, and my mother-in-law uses a walker, so anything underfoot needs to stay put. I don't find that the mat slips on my textured porch, but I can't take any chances. If you are using the mat on a more slick surface (composite decking for example) I would highly recommend adding this non-slip mat.
