Floor Epoxy Resin
The epoxy floor resin works very well. I grind the surface of the concrete with a 4 1/2” concrete surface grinding wheel, with a cheap grinder. Grinding the concrete removes all the dirt and is a lot cheaper, then buying a lot of cleaner, then sweep and vacuum the concrete. I Mixed about 1/2 gallon of epoxy with 2 ounces of gray, I rolled a thin coat of gray for a gray base coat on the concrete. If you coat the concrete with a 1/8” coat and throw flakes on it, most of the flakes disappear into the gray epoxy. If you let the gray coat dry, then lightly sand it the next day. I then mix 3/4 of a gallon of clear epoxy rolled a thick coat over top of the gray concrete floor, while someone else throws a lot of flakes on top. We like a lot of flakes, so we coat everything with flakes. Don’t mix more than 3/4 of a gallon, it drys too fast. When we mixed the epoxy, it was cold, the epoxy was a lot thicker in the gallon jugs, we used a hair dryer on the epoxy to make it thinner, this makes it easier to mix and doesn’t dry as fast. The colder it is, the faster the epoxy drys. We coated the epoxy in small areas at a time and continued with more areas the next day. It dries overnight, then I use a drywall blade to lightly scrape the top of the flakes and sweep them up. The dry flakes in the epoxy leave the surface rough and it is not slippery. It’s done. Plan on using about 4 to 6 times more epoxy, then what they say 3/4 of a gallon of clear epoxy only covers about an 5’ x 8’ area of concrete floor. We just finished the concrete floor in a house. Looks great. Hot temperatures are better, it doesn’t dry as fast. I mixed the epoxy for about 1 1/2 minutes, then pour it on the floor fast and spread it quickly. The gray base coat, I poured it into a paint roller pan and painted a thin gray base coat on the floor, it covers a big area, because it’s a thin base coat, just for a background color.
