Texas Rocks and Minerals Field Guide

The guide is what I wanted. I like that the pages are laminated so they don’t get torn up out in the field. I haven’t used it yet due to I’m living in New Mexico right now, wish there was a New Mexico Rocks and Minerals Guide.that would be a good set. But like to do a trip in west Texas someday. I’m sure this guide will come in handy. I’m also looking to getting the United States Rocks and Minerals Giuide.

It’s a very good but elementary summary of Texas mineralogy. I am a geologist so I look for more technical detail but this is not intended for that purpose. It is aimed for the “rock hound” who is interested in what minerals occur in Texas and where with a few basic physical facts about each species. For that purpose it is very good. Some generalized maps of localities (star on a map) for each species would be nice. I would note that many of these minerals occur on private property so ask landowner permission if out collecting.
