R30 allows you to "permanently" install side rails but remove the gate when not necessary. The brackets allow flexibility when mounting it, it swings either direction, I installed so that it cannot swing over the descending stairwell (it hits the stairway trim) but can be swung inward easily. I looked hard, there are few other hard mounted gates that allow you to remove the gate when not in use, this model works great for that.

Great product! Very sturdy. Easy to use, even at 3am in the dark.
