The Wolves of Langston Solo 5e Adventure (PDF + Epub)

Really enjoyable first ever game

Being a lifetime RPG/PC/xbox gamer, all my life I have wanted to get into D&D, but felt quite intimidated by the barriers to entry. With the advent of ChatGPT and the creation of solo adventure games like this one, I was able to use 5e and create a character, fill out (most of) a character sheet, buy myself my first bag of mystery dice, and get started. As I played through I used AI to help explain the differences for dice and what the stat boxes mean etc. In Wolves of Langston, I nearly gave up on the corpse fight - I was literally on attempt 12, which I had decided would be my last before just moving forward, and I finally defeated the corpse fair and square - the relief! This story was a really lovely introduction to a world that I have longed to be in for decades. It is giving me a little more confidence to try some more solo adventures before reaching out to a local group in my small town and see if I might sit in or even join an actual campaign for a newbie like me. Sincere thanks to Obvious Mimic for creating solo playing opportunities like this one. There are a LOT of rules to D&D and this was paced nicely that it was a good introduction to the world. It was reminiscent of the old Choose Your Own Adventure novels of my youth, but with dice throwing and turn taking attacks. I managed to level up my char and I look forward to my second solo adventure game soon.

Good fun, I really enjoyed my time with the adventure!

So the character I rolled up for this game used the shifter species and acolyte background, using a Dark Knight ffxiv homebrew class. The basic idea was that she was purging her curse as offensive dark energy to stave off her lycanthropy. Anyway, It had been some time since I bought the product and I forgot it was about Werewolves so it made the in character choices pretty fun as my character would bullheadedly do anything to destroy a lycanthrope. That said, the adventure handled her homebrew class well and she wasn't overpowered. Had easy fights, challenging ones, and the final one was pretty hard for her. Overall I think this is a fun way to test a dnd homebrew class, test the water as a beginner, or kill an afternoons worth of time!

My first D&D solo adventure and it was a great experience

This was my first D&D solo adventure and it reminded me of playing the Quest board game or respectively the Adventure Games series by Kosmos. So, I don't know if most solo adventures are structured this way, but it was cool to have ability checks, combat and the way that the resolutions of ability checks were described that fits the adventure and its cast of characters well. I'm now probably going to take this and add this as a piece to my homebrew D&D world as it seems suitable to be turned into an adventure for multiple people - maybe even a group of beginners - if you balance the encounters a bit.
