Tasty & Versatile
Straight out of the package there is an unexpected dill pickle scent - perhaps from the package? - but it disappears completely as soon as the tea is added to the warm pot and did not transfer to my teaware…
This Da Hong Pao really shines when brewed gongfu style, in duanni with high tea/water ratio, 100° water and quick steeps. The roast fragrance is delightful, and early infusions have rich flavour almost like coffee but without any hint of bitterness. In subsequent infusions, the roast flavour softens while the fragrance remains, and the mineral quality shines through- cooling & grounded, like the scent of river rocks after rain, imparting a calm & focused qi.
Or if you prefer to brew Western style, it makes a satisfying morning cup (or three or more), with a roasted, full taste that instills a focused, grounded feeling- no caffeine jitters here!
This has the potential to become one of my favourites - thanks iCha!
