Virtual Class - Simplified Varroa Control

This is another excellent presentation. Learned lots and like the variety of techniques presented for detecting and treating. Especially liked the tip about most of the mites being on the underside and tucked in. Didn't read that anywhere. Ordering my drone comb!

I took a lot of notes. I completed my 2nd year in 2023 and had a great harvest with 2 hives. Got a late start (7/2021) so we didn’t harvest the first year. As I was watching the video I realized the mistakes I made and lost a very strong hive of bees in September 2023. I’m ashamed of myself for not taking this class sooner. Also keep Apivar strips in supply, I couldn’t find any. Use ApiGuard in 110 degrees in Central Texas. I will be more aware of taking the chemical strips out or try the method recommended in the video with ApiGuard. Looking forward to learning how to split hives as well as picking up a replacement hive. Upon retirement I am intrigued to give the mechanical control a try. I feel this class was time and money well spent.

I am happy I did this class! Gives me a better understanding on what to do about varroa for 2024. I am excited to put to use what I learned
