Skeg Tube / Housing Valley post-2011
I replaced the cable, poly tube/housing, and carbon slider in an abused and neglected fg Avocet. The project went as planned and the end result is perfect. The original poly tube/housing from the factory has a crimped ring at the fwd end; I bought a 6 mm compression fitting and several additional rings from mcmaster. I used that compression fitting to press the fwd ring on the new tube, then removed the compression nut before sliding the tube into place from the fwd end. Another new compression ring (and the original 6 mm compression nut) is needed to re-affix the aft end of the tube to the glassed-in compression fitting above the skeg. You will also need a bit of marine grade clear silicone to seal up the penetration at the slider assembly end. The Kayak Academy instructions are excellent and very detailed for the cable replacement so make sure you read them a few times.
