Contender Green Beans
I live in Wyoming, so my growing season is a bit shorter. I planted three types of green beans. The Contender, Blue Lake, and Tender Green. All bush beans. I liked that you could plant the Contender seeds closer together. Additionally, the rate of germination for the Contender was at least 95%. It was definitely the first to start producing and provided heavy yields. These were a good-sized bean, that wasn't stringy, or didn't get tough if you let them go a little too long on the bush. The Tender Green didn't have nearly the germination rate of the Contender. It was closer to 60-70%. Its only August, so they may really start coming on. However, to date, the Tender Green didn't produce nearly as many bean pods. Additionally, if you let these stay on the bush a little too long, they get a bit stringy, and tough. Lastly, was the Blue Lake. The germination of these was about 50-60%. They haven't produced nearly as well as the Contender either. Again, I need to give them a little more time to see if that improves. One last note, our water well pump went out in July. It was extremely hot, over 100°. The garden didn't get watered regularly for a couple of days, but the beans all came through without any issues. Overall, I'm extremely satisfied with the Contender green beans.
