The currants are great—I'm enjoying eating them with my morning yoghurt, and the taste reminds me of the currants I used to eat in my grandfather's garden in Finland—but it took three days for them to travel from New York to Massachusetts, and they were completely thawed by the time they arrived. Paying over $30 in shipping (for not much less than the five pounds of currants themselves cost), I'm not inclined to make the purchase again—or at least not to do it during warm-weather months. So that the currants wouldn't be one lumpen mass when refrozen, I had to spread them out on cookie sheets and freeze them on those, then scoop into smaller parchment-paper bags (kept in one larger stainless steel container in a chest freezer) for easier use later. And then there's the issue of all the plastic: I have washed the original bag and will reuse it, but am not proud of having ordered something that needed to be shipped with styrofoam. That had been a dealbreaker in the past—I am avoiding plastic (a bane to the environment, as less than 8% gets recycled across the planet; most of it ends up in our oceans or despoiling other parts of the environment)—but in a moment of weakness, having intense black currant cravings, I made the order anyway. Honestly, to cut out the plastic and unreliability of shipping, I would prefer to make a detour to the farm in Staatsburg, with a cooler, the next time I'm in New York, and buy the currants there directly. Is there a storefront/farmstand? The website doesn't indicate.

Great product! I used to eat a a lot of blue berries, but I've switched to black currants because of there superior antioxidant and nutrient density...more bang for the buck!

I live in Virginia, one of the states which still has the law on the books forbidding to grow black currants. I am also of european descent where red and black currants are a kitchen staple. I was cautiously optimistic when I found the option to order fresh frozen berries. since my first order I have been and will be a loyal and happy customer. The order and shipping process is easy and reliable. The black currant berries are delicious and fresh once defrosted. They make a wonderful Jelly! I could not be happier.
