Douglas Fryer gives a genuine and unadulterated view of how art and painting really work: An idea slowly forms itself into a picture, takes detours and different directions and gives room for the possibilities to unfold and our curiosity the necessary inspiration to gather new ideas. Good painting does not fall from the sky, it is a constant dialog between our mind , our soul and our intuition and when, as in this case, all work harmoniously together, art is created that has substance, meaning, and authenticity. Highly recommended.

Totally enjoyable and worthwhile experience

I am a realist painter who bought this video wanting to explore a looser technique. I found this video totally engrossing and entertaining. I appreciated Doug Fryer’s ability to clearly explain his choices and demonstrate how he uses various tools to get the results he envisioned. It took away my fear of the palette knife and for the first time in years I saw a path to achieving the results I have wanted in my work. I can’t wait to start exploring. All in all, this DVD is well worth the cost for its instruction value alone. There is much depth in the information. But even for the sheer pleasure of watching this painting come to life, it is one of the best purchases I have made.
