Tubers infected with gall
I purchased this tuber December 2023 and it is showing symptoms of gall. I planted the tuber this spring and it sent up two very large shoots and one smaller one. Everything was great until a wind storm broke the two large shoots at the base. I left the tuber in the ground and hoped it would sprout more shoots, and it did. Unfortunately, the new shoots are clear signs of gall, which, after a lot of recent research, I have found is a common issue with EB tubers. Since gall is highly contagious, my other tubers are likely infected since all of the tubers are shipped in the same box in bags with small ventilation holes. I hope the other tuber varieties are not infected, but it's too soon to tell. All the research says gall takes about two years for symptoms to start. So this first tuber symptom is within that time frame and the others should show within the year or early next year if they are infected. I've called EB's customer service line,= but continuously receive the "we are away and cannot answer your call", even though I call during normal business hours. I'm a returning customer and purchased more tubers this month from EB during their sale (I did this before I found the gall) so I hope EB will rectify this issue.
