I've had this thing for about nine months and it's already saved my 2006 WRX from what could have been major damage. Today I hit a massive pothole that was hidden by flood water from a storm. Even though I was crawling at less than 5 MPH, the pothole was so wide and deep that my bumper actually scraped the pavement. Luckily, the skid plate shouldered most of the hit. I also live in a very rural area, where the backroads can be unforgiving to vehicles without much ground clearance. It made sense to have added protection. I chose this skid plate over competitors' because the holes for the oil plug and oil filter are pretty convenient. I cannot recommend it enough.
