Fabulous fabric, funky fit

I’ll start by saying I’m sad I had to return these pants. I was really looking forward to wearing them on an upcoming flight to Australia, but I couldn’t justify the expense when they didn’t fit me well. I’m basically shaped like a rectangle and don’t have a nicely defined waist. I have a more athletic build measuring 39 (full bust) - 34 (2 inches above belly button - 40 (fullness in buttocks, not thighs). I bought my usual size large and found the waistband to be snug. I do need to lose 10#, but I’m not sure they would be more comfortable at that point, as I’m also short waisted and the elastic is 2” wide. I would’ve been happy to live with the waistband or even alter it, but the extra fullness (think Canadian Mountie pants) of the pant legs in the outer hip/thigh area was something I just couldn’t deal with and couldn’t alter d/t the French seams. I don’t need extra fabric in my outer thigh area. My mom was going to hem the Lanes to the exact length I wanted and she immediately commented on the extra fabric when I tried them on for her, so I decided to return them. This is the second pair of Wool& pants with this issue. Canyon pants also have the same issue, but the rest of the fit is such that I was able to go down to a medium to resolve that problem. I would gladly buy the Lanes again if this design was changed, but as is, they just don’t work for me. Unfortunately, my hunt for the perfect travel day pants continues.
