My first brew using Riwaka hops

By way of background, I have been brewing for around 30 years but only using cans as the the starting point. For a number of years now I have been jazzing up the basic can contents by adding the liquid from steeped cracked malts and various hop pellets depending on the type of beer I am trying to make. For my first brew using Riwaka hops, I was trying to make a European style pilsner, so my recipe was a can of Coopers 86 Days Pilsner concentrate, 1 Coopers Brew Enhancer 3, 200g Simpsons medium crystal cracked steeped for 20 mins in boiling water, and 25g Riwaka, 15g Motueka and 10g Mosaic hops dissolved in boiling water all strained and added to the brew before topping up to 23 litres and pitching in the yeast. I only bottled it 3 days ago but I had a taste of the unconditioned mix and am looking forward to trying the result in 4 or 5 weeks time.

Riwaka is a great hop for producing pale ales with a bright, tropical aroma and flavor. Take any light ale with the maltiness and bitterness in balance, bitter with Citra, and save the Riwaka for flavor and aroma. Drink within six months to enjoy the most aromatic and flavorful brew. Happy brewing!
