Spitfire Book by John Nichol

Having read John Nichols book “Lancaster;” an exceptional account of the bomber, I saw the book “Spitfire” was available also written by JN. I fully remember his downing and capture all those years ago. I’ve just started reading “Spitfire” and thus far it is a brilliant account of this much loved WWll fighter. A couple of passing comments :- One of my school teachers was a “Lancaster Rear Gunner,” but never spoke about his war service whilst I was in his class. In later years I learned, from him, he was shot down twice. In 1961 I met a WWll fighter pilot who lived in our village and was with 43 Sqn at RAF Odiham. He always said the Spitfire was “THE” aircraft to fly. He too spoke very little of his service. I look forward to many hours reading. T S Hunt
