Surprisingly, I wasn't super thrilled
I'm super surprised that I wasn't more pleased by this set.
Here's why:
I bought the set so me and my small daughter (who LOVES smelling perfumes) could do a little bonding "scent-venture" together. I was hoping for an olfactory roller coaster ride: variety, explosions, fireworks, flames, marshmallows, petals falling from the sky---that ended in her having a little fragrance collection of her own. (We're blissfully happy in girly-girl-land, thanks for asking).
But actually this experience with the trial set was not only mostly one-note, but quite a disappointing note at that.
My daughter and I DID smell them, and she had a fine enough time I guess, but neither she nor I really LOVED any of them enough to soak her most treasured stuffed animal in an entire trial-bottle and then run back to the website buy a big one.
Now, that said, the illustrations are beautiful, the packaging is clean and pretty and elegant, and I LOVE the fact that they labeled the flaps.
But I will definitely pull this out of my closet a year or so down the road because I forgot that I had it, and then I'll either give it away, throw it away, or use up the sample tubes as fast as possible because I hate waste. It was not the scent version of "Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans" that I'd hoped it would be.
I guess that's reason for the 2 stars. It was very Meh. Only minus a star, because for a trial set that sells for $60-70 before member discount or sale price or special deal...I'd expect to find at least one that screams "OMG I'm Obsessed!", and I'd expect to find more than 2 that make me feel like, "Oh, that's lovely :) "
Don't get me wrong Spring Fling? Very pretty. Zest for Life? Quite pleasant. Some others were nice enough, But there were actually a shocking number of these that I immediately did not like, and one that truly made me recoil (I'm looking at you Sage and Black Tea Renew). There were also a few where I couldn't figure out why it was in the trial set at all, because it wasn't really extraordinary, and there was already one similar enough in the set to justify picking something else.
I guess that's partly the point of a sample set--but at the same time, I think the mistake here was making them all Unisex, instead of having a trial set for men and a trial set for women--and then including a couple of well-chosen unisex options in each gender-specific trial set.
But you know what? The day Dossier has a feminine, girly "Let's get our china teacups, fix a tray of cookies, and try these girlies out" sample set, I'll be hitting "add to cart".
But for now, I'll just hang tight.
