Sherpa HD Awning Mount

5th Gen 4Runner + 180 Awning + HD Awning Mount = Liftgate Strike

I used the Sherpa HD Awning Mounts with my Crestone rack to mount an OVS 180° awning on my 5th gen 4Runner ORP, and the awning will not mount high enough to avoid striking the rear liftgate. In my pics I relaxed the tension on the awning to move it aside to show how much higher the liftgate needs to rise before it fully opens. I don't have another awning to try out to be certain, but I would guess this will happen with any brand 180° or 270° awning that has a support arm positioned similar to what is seen in my pics.

Happy and Reassured

i just installed three of these on my 4Runner’s Sherpa Crestone rack. Now I wait; anticipating the arrival of my Taruca Rouge 270. The mounts seem to be rock solid. If the side panels that connect to the side of the crossbar are slightly flared out as mine were a clamp will be necessary for the small bolt to make contact with the drop in nut. Other than that, the install went very smoothly and the PDF instructions couldn’t be more clear.

It is a very satisfying product.
