Doesn't turn out like picture

Maybe it was because I used 5 yarn instead of 6, but i could not get the cute bubbles. I tried 3 times knitting 3 repeats and it just looked blech. I'm an intermediate knitter and have done much more complicated pattern (2 sided double knit). Watched tutorial countless times too. Very disappointed.
