Great insert, one design challenge

This is a great drawer divider, and the inclusion of space for steak knives is brilliant. Why are the the dividers between the areas so thick? Lots of real estate used when a spoon to fork separation doesn’t need reinforced dividers. Would have appreciated more storage space instead.
