This is an excellent #4 weight cotton yarn. It does split a little but not too much. The payoff is the feel of the yarn which is even better than in the skein. I made a kimono style jacket which feels like home when I wear it. It works up consistent. Tension is easy to maintain. I have purchased more since completing my fist project
