I love my new little 10" Cricket Loom. It's just the perfect size and weight for my small apartment. It fits everywhere so I can move it around as needed for sunlight or nighttime storage. It fits on the top of a large plastic storage box where they (filled with yarn stash) are stacked to just the right height for weaving !!! How great it that ! It is EASY to warp - really. My first warp was - well - kind of crooked (somehow) and off to one side- I was concerned, but it turned out just fine !! It was a practice weave, naturally. The 2nd warp I somehow ended up with a tiny bit looser warp on the left side--not droopy, but I could feel it. Now I am very careful to get the tension right all across the warp right as I tie it on. I can put the paper (cut up grocery bags) in on my own when warping. I had to do some fancy footwork to find a place to attach my warping PEG. Once attached, I found that wrapping some fabric around the top of the peg kept the warp threads from sliding off - a problem caused by where I had to attach it. I'm on my 3rd 'creation' and naturally every one is another fun op to practice new techniques. The only thing that puzzles me is the way the two 'brakes' are set up it is kind of awkward to wind the woven part onto the front drum. I want to keep tension on the warp on the back drum, so I have to use one hand to hold the tension and the other - in front - to wind onto the front drum. I look like a pretzel doing this. I must have missed some instruction & hope it will surface, but for now it works fine. I used one pretty ball of the yarn sent with the loom as the weft for my first creation. It was just enough to warp an 8" wide warp (leaving 3 empty slots on each side) that was about 6 feet long on the warp - maybe 5 ' after washing. Oh, and I had fun putting the loom together. I like doing that sort of thing. I did manage to lose one of the tiny screws (I still have no idea where it went), but had one that fits almost perfectly. It would be helpful to have the exact screw sizes listed in the instructions in case one needs to replace a disappearing little devil. Now I want more heddles in various sizes. And I also made out of heavy cardboard, a bunch of weaving shuttles so I can use a bunch of colors. Also made a cardboard Pick-up-Stick to weave Leno patterns. My edges are getting better (ha) and I'm getting better at my beating too. Both of the first projects turned out soft enough, after washing, to be used as a scarf. Maybe kitchen towels next. It was shipped so quickly that I had to WAIT over a holiday weekend to pick it up at the PO on Monday !! A fun little Loon - mostly nice design. Good job Schacht candi in New Mexico
