Got the 4.5kg whale after using the 750g ghost shark and 1.5kg great white, and various steel maces for years. Compared to those lighter ropes: - Texture: a looser, softer, fatter weave than the lighter ropes. If you are going to worry about snagging the weave causing loops or frays this might annoy you. - Grip: this is much fatter, which could be too much if you have smaller hands, haven't done much grip training, or are prone to tennis/golfers elbow. I grab it down from the handles to make the length/weight more manageable and there is a squishy give on the body of the rope, which helps with that. - Feel: It adds a different kind of heft, momentum and full body weight transfer compared to the lighter ropes. Compared to a similar weight steel mace doing a similar move (eg a mill), the rope feels more like a throw (eg judo). - Overall: glad I got it, it does different things, and hasn't duplicated or replaced my use of maces and lighter ropes. I couldn't do many lighter rope moves with the whale, or whale like 'throws' with the lighter ones (they just don't have the mass). If you only wanted one heavy rope I would pick something lighter to have a broader range of moves. If you have some other heavy ropes and want to add some hefty cross training, go for it, depending on your injury/training history and personality eg niggles with tennis elbow? like martial arts throws? going to worry about frays/snags?

The Whale offers a different type of workout. Any basic movements using a smaller rope is diffult with Whale. Bravo to winding ropes.
