Great alternative to the WS90 rain sensor but a few comments
I purchased the WH40 to give an alternative rain sensor to the one on the WS90. The WS90 is less than a year old but the rain sensor has started to give erratic readings and all the reviews seems to say the WH40 is more accurate anyway. Firstly, Customer Service from Weather Spares. This was fantastic and Claire seemed to reply almost before I'd sent an email! Whether this was a quiet day for her or not I didn't ask. Anyway the sensor arrived the next day! Setting it up was doddle. The hardest bit was deciding where to put it - in my case on top of a fence panel for easy maintenance -- you can't just leave it alone - you have to clean it out from time to time. Don't forget to add a battery! By the time I got back in the house the HP2564 panel had picked it up and all I had to do was change a setting to make it the main rain sensor. If you are using the Ecowitt app you get readings from both. OK, some comments. I think it under reads on low rainfall. I think a prime reason is that droplets collect on the side of the funnel and stay there. My solution (after some research) was to use car polish on the funnel and this made the droplets slide down to be measured. You can use a silicon spray but nowhere here stocked any. In this day and age I would have thought a better plastic could be available to avoid this problem. Otherwise it all seems good. I will probably buy a new sensor to repair the WS90 and then will be able to compare them together. Unfortunately in my case the WS90 came from a different supplier and while it is theoretically under guarantee the supplier does not respond to my requests. Lesson learned - be careful where you buy from!
