I received this pilea a few weeks ago and it suffered a bit of damage along the way but considering it traveled across the country in a box, it looked decent, just a little distressed. It had clearly had a good watering before it was sent out so I did not water it for at least a week after it was delivered and I have not watered it since. I allowed it to acclimate in a west facing window and did not find any pests. A few days ago, I noticed edema forming on the leaves – a typical sign of over-watering. So I took a look at the roots and noticed some rot forming and the soil seemed to be compacted around the roots. Black mushy roots were removed and I repotted the plant back in with some of its original soil and some new tropical soil with charcoal and pine bark mix and DID NOT water it. The edema seems to be going away slowly and it’s popping out 4 new leaves at the top. I really do recommend to the sellers to use a chunkier soil mix for their pileas. This was one sitting in a thick clump and not getting enough oxygen to its roots. Thanks for my lovely plant child!! 🪴
