I don't understand this product. They have a travel battery/charger. Why does this desktop unit need a battery?

Rock solid product

I had originally ordered one via the prerelease campaign and due to its overwhelming popularity in my household of 4 iPhones, 2 MacBooks, 3 Windows laptops and 3 iPads… we have setup stations around the house for them. My kids and I also use the battery version for one day table top use in school and work settings daily.
