Velvet Tonka

Sweet, Nutty and Powerful

BDK Velvet Tonka is more complex than I expected. It opens on a light orange blossom floral note but evolves and becomes a deeper scent with tobacco and rose oil. The dry down is beautiful; woody vanilla, a bit resinous. Very good longevity as most BDK fragrances have. Quite elegant. I like this one and can see wearing it year round but I think it will really be best in cooler weather.

Beautifully made… but a powdery tonka trap (not for me)

I wanted a creamy, edible tonka, and Velvet Tonka just didn’t go there on my skin/fabric. The quality is obvious and it smells polished, but the tonka reads more cosmetic/powdery than gourmand to me, and it never fully shifts into that dense amber/benzoin-anchored sweetness I was hoping for. If you like an elegant, smooth tonka with a refined “dressed up” feel, you’ll probably enjoy it. For my taste, it stayed too powder-adjacent and ended up being a pass.

4/5 Sweet, creamy, spicy. Unusual. Slight powdery but not necessarily in a bad way. Dinner out on summer evening. Cocktail dress, you’ve taken shoes off and are walking along a bridge with your date.
