a bit odd at 1st but I really like it, espeically in salve
The butter by itself is not as pleasant as other butters. It has a pudding consistency but with a grit to it that was not a nice sensation when applying it to skin even if is mostly melts. It was tricky at 1st to get out of the plastic bag and into the tub but I warmed it in the sink a bit and that helped a lot. The smell is odd. I can understand how someone else said fishy, but to me it is like if sardines didn't smell fishy if you can imagine- a savory and smoky umame smell with some earthy warm cocoa/spice under it. I will say why it is an odd scent it is not strong on a person and changes with body chemistry to be more smoky cocoa spice. When I had it applied to my arms and was sitting beside someone who is sensitive to smells it was not noticeable to them. It does tint pale skin a bit.
I have so far used it to make a pain salve with my homemade herbal infusion and this is where it rocks. The texture issues disappear and the consistency is perfect. The scent is easy to over power if you like. I will be making more for myself and for gifts. I did notice the skin where I applied it was extra soft after so I am going to try it in a body butter as well.
