It turns out I don't really care for the standard cateye magnet style, but I still used this plenty when updating my swatch sticks for my magnetic collection, so it definitely earned its $5.

Yes, this takes a little getting used to and you might bump your nail on the magnet if you try to hover your finger. Before use, I tested a few objects to find something to rest my finger on to get it closer to the magnet. I wound up using a thin book of poetry, but anything would work. It works well to get a more concentrated line. I place the magnet so that I can see the ends sticking out from under the frame - that way I can be more exact with placement of the line on the nail.

I put the magnet at an angle to get a tilted cat eye. I find this super-convenient and easy to use!
