S3 Calendar Field White - 36mm Quartz

I got this watch as my “rough and tumble” watch for when I’d be working in the ED. My logic was that it seemed quite legible and I could re-use it when I was out hiking. It did its job okay in the ED, but I have been disappointed with the lume, both the design as well as the responsiveness. My Certina DS action is far more responsive to dim circumstances and is highly legible; as is, I wouldn’t feel comfortable taking this watch on a hike that could end after the sun sets, because it’s not easy to read or especially well lit. I know there is a black dial version with a lot more lume, but this white one doesn’t cut it. I was also a little let down by the ocean strap, which immediately irritated my skin. I had to order an FKM strap, which did the job, but all in all, that’s not a trivial cost - around 250$ retail for the watch and the strap. I bought a Vaer watch because I felt it would be of better quality/value for the money than bigger brands like Timex or Citizen, and while I’m sure Vaer has *other* watches that do offer a great deal of value, I’m left with mixed feelings after this purchase. The stand out feature at this price point is probably the sapphire crystal, but aside from that, I’m not sure it’s the best purchase. Maybe I will warm up to it over time, but I feel like it will always be a bit subpar as a field watch due to the lume issue. If you’re looking to buy a C3 Calendar, I’d recommend the black dial or another watch.

This is a great addition to my Vaer collection, love the 36mm size, and the face is so easy to read.

This watch immediately became my everyday wear. It’s super high quality and looks sleek with any outfit and the interchangeable bands are an awesome touch. If you’re on the fence, get one. You won’t regret it.
