Fun Mitts!

I love the mitts as pictured in the pattern, and look forward to knitting them. Just wondering if it would be wise to divide each of the five yarn samples in half to make sure I have enough yarn for both mitts. Or should I estimate the total number of rounds in each mitt based on row gauge? Any suggestions would be welcome.
