Cooling Case for playing Pokémon Go during hot sommer days
I bought the cooling case for playing Pokémon Go during hot sommer days. The case looks nice, feels ok when it’s been carried around and the iPad Mini 7 fits perfectly in it. The case is half an inch thick. My expectations were no more lacks of performance by stopping the device from getting too hot and a case which is as narrow as possible. My exact use case: - device: iPad Mini 7 with Cellular - Game: Pokémon Go - native refresh rate (60 Hz) - Regular ingame graphics (no advanced textures or enhanced movement settings) - LTE or 5G data usage with assisted GPS, only for location services - no game file streaming (all game files pre-downloaded before playing) - other apps and background activity reduced to a minimum - The cooling case with the iPad in it would be carried around by hand and is not mounted anywhere I have tested the case in the past few weeks on days with more than 25 degrees Celsius (more than 77 degrees Fahrenheit) and bright sun light. I had noticed the following: - the device reduced periodically drastically its display brightness, even while standing in the shades - the game is still lagging periodically - the devices battery couldn’t be charged anymore but stays at its battery level from the time when it was plugged in and uses only the power it’s getting from a power bank - it feels a bit too thick while carrying the device with the case around - I don’t have an Apple Pencil for the device because I don’t need it. And I don’t use the leg mount. So these two structures on the case are useless for me. So my conclusion is that the device is still getting too hot because this device behavior are signs of reducing its performance to try to cool down. I had the feeling that the device would’ve turned off itself completely when I didn’t had the case with its cooling fan running. However the overall cooling performance isn’t enough to normalize the devices temperatures and keeping performances issues away at all. In my short and very pleasant correspondence with customer service, Pokémon Go was allegedly compared with heavy aviation navigation apps and the performance of the devices during this apps was described as consistently stable. I could tell you now that the comparison wasn’t very accurate. I also got nearly every information which I requested. Thank you for your help and your kindness! In the end I would buy the case again but only because of the lack of other acceptable options. The case had a very high price for me which was all in all close to 500€ ($580) with shipping to Germany, toll and even with a 10% discount code used on the purchase. It doesn’t have enough cooling performance to keep the device cool enough in situations where the iPads maximum performance is required. My suggestions are to optimize the design to achieve less height, to optimize the internal airflow and to build in a more powerful cooling fan for getting an overall better cooling performance. Maybe build a version without the leg mount and the Apple Pencil holder because not everyone needs this things.

Function works well, button wa s bit tricky and I had to drill out the hole a bit more. Cord is way to long and just always in the way and I wish there was a status light that told me if it was on or not. With all that said iPad hasn’t gone into overheat so I guess it does its job but not very user friendly.

So far, so good. Seems to be providing sufficient cooling during the hot summer months. Have been using only with aircraft power in order to preserve iPad battery. Found myself checking a couple of times to ensure whether the cool case was on or not - no way to tell while mounted if it is on.
