Very Nice GMT Watch, Great Value
I recently purchase a Mido Multifort Dual Time Blue from Teddy Baldassarre. This particular model interested me initially because, although it’s named “dual time”, it’s actually of a type commonly known as a “true GMT” movement. This is because the reference (base) time, indicated by the 24-hour hand and read using the 24 hour scale, is set first after pulling the crown out to the 3rd position, and the local time and date are then set with the crown in the 2nd position. After the reference time is set, when setting the local time and date, the hour hand jumps in one hour steps. You can turn the crown in either direction and the date will change accordingly. The booklet that came with the watch does not provide instructions for setting the base or local time and date; however these are included in the downloadable user manual on the Mido website. Adjusting the date for months with less than 31 days, or for any other reason, requires advancing the local hour hand past midnight. Depending on how many days you need to go, this may require a significant number of turns of the crown. Fortunately you can go forward or backward to move in the shortest direction. I only buy watches from authorized dealers and, as there are no Mido dealers with a storefront in my area that carry this particular model, I was unable to physically examine the watch beforehand. I was somewhat concerned about the similar look and length of the two hour hands and also wasn’t sure how much I’d like the look of the “Geneva Stripes” on the blue dial. When I look at this watch on my wrist however, it’s easy to distinguish between both hour hands. Also, the appearance of the stripes changes with the angle of the view of the dial, varying between not visible at all and very pronounced (as shown in the website illustration). I admit that I like it more than I thought I would. The rotor visible through the see-through case back is also decorated with similar stripes. The Mido caliber 80 movement (base ETA C07.661) on the Multifort Dual Time watch operates at 21,600 BPH and has an 80 hour power reserve. I am pleased to report that one week after initially setting my Mido Dual Time it’s running only 11 seconds slower! The second hand stops when setting the reference time so it’s easy to set accurately. With a screw down crown and 100 meters water resistance added to all of the other features included, I think that this watch provides an excellent value. I was very happy with the service received from this seller. I spoke with Dan several times, he was very helpful, and the watch was delivered in perfect condition three days after I placed the order. I wouldn’t hesitate to order from them in the future.
