A ukulele unique to stand on its own
As a current owner and very proud advocate for my Fully Carbon Fibre tenor ukulele, which I use for busking regularly, I was interested in getting an 8 string ukulele with the thought that it would bring me a bigger sound when performing. Doing a lot of research I’d heard some nightmare stories about wooden 8 string ukes with the bridge eventually lifting off the body in time due to the pressure of the extra tension from the strings. So, I was reluctant to spend money on a Kala or O’Hana, Leho or other brand as it seemed inevitable to fail. Enter the Klōs carbon fibre. Strong, durable, lifetime warranty, already proven quality, sound and intonation? Sounds like a no brainer!! I wanted something a little different than my 4 string tenor, so I reached out about getting the 8 string in the new Carbon Timber finish - a first for the 8 string! I received my instrument this week and my initial impression was that it’s lighter in weight than my 4 string. The wood neck is a more familiar “feel” than the carbon fibre with beautifully smooth finish. The action is low with no buzzing and the intonation is spot on. The sound is definitely more full than a 4 string uke, but not nearly as harsh as a mandolin. Pleasant, harmonic and full! This instrument includes a Fishman pick-up and double strap buttons so it’s performance ready. The carrying case bag now has two straps to carry like a backpack instead of one which will be great for biking to the beach.
