I purchased a 10-pack of Jersey Knight asparagus crowns because they are typically marketed as an all-male hybrid for higher yield and minimal berry production. After establishment, several plants produced berries, indicating female plants are present in the batch. While overall growth was acceptable, the stock appears inconsistent and not fully uniform for a cultivar expected to be predominantly male. For a long-term perennial crop where results take time to verify, clearer disclosure of possible variability in crown composition would have been helpful.
