I planted my Barley earlier this month and it's coming up. I saved seen for next year. I want this barley to use in soup. This is my first time growing my own.

Great August cover crop
I seeded my depleted summer vegetable beds after harvest with barley mix with some hairy vetch and buckwheat. Barley has grow thick and dense, I am hoping it winter kill and create a nice much on top of the bed. Very satisfy with this seed.

Barley bothers
Everything was going well in the first raised bed. Barley was up as was crimson clover. A few weeks later and two other beds sown, but hardly anything was showing up. One evening came the answer: quail loves barley seeds. So now instead of just broadcasting the seed I have to punch it into the soil and keep watch for marauding birds!
