Successful Germination
Most if not all of the seeds we planted in peat pucks have been successful. We’ve just transplanted them into our containers so here’s hoping for a large harvest!

A reliable producer
I have grown Detroit type beets for many years. Some years the harvest is huge and some years I get very little.Since I switched to Merlin my luck has changed and I usually get large (too large) harvests from 20 feet of row spaced at 3 inches. I use beets for soups and pickling primarily. Merlin is never woody. I don't let them grow too long. They keep well in the fridge until I am ready to use them. Merlin has good texture and good colour and skins come off easily when they are boiled. I have been sowing with respect to the moon phase over the past 6 years or more. This year I sowed 4 short, parallel rows with intention to spread the harvest period. The first row was sowed 6 days before the Full Moon, the Second on the Full Moon, the third 4 days after Full Moon and the fourth 4 days after that. Curiously, the first two rows produced on time and with well-sized beets. The latter two rows never really did very well, roots were generally smaller even though they had several weeks more time to size up. Perhaps a coincidence but definitely interesting.
