Great Tool, Just Make Sure You’ve Got the Right Torch for It
We recently used the flame shroud from Neversink Farms for burning lesser celandine in the Chicagoland area, and overall it’s a pretty cool tool with a clear purpose.
The concept makes a lot of sense, and when it’s working properly, it does a nice job focusing the flame. The main issue we ran into was airflow, if the shroud is too close to the ground, the flame tends to go out. We found that it really needs to be held slightly above the surface to allow enough oxygen in, rather than being pressed close to the ground.
After revisiting the product page, it makes more sense, they recommend pairing it with a 400,000 BTU torch. We were using a lower-powered setup, which likely contributed to the issue. Once we adjusted by lifting the front edge slightly to allow airflow, performance improved, but it still wasn’t ideal with our current torch.
We’ve since ordered the recommended 400,000 BTU torch and are planning to test it again, as we suspect the limitations we experienced were more related to our setup than the shroud itself.
Overall, a solid product with a thoughtful design, just make sure you’re pairing it with the right torch and allowing for proper airflow.
