Organic Cotton & Wool Shikibuton

Organic and comfortable mattresses and excellent service.

We have bought all our 8 cotton and wool mattresses from Soaring hearts over last 7 years and needed two more for our kids room last month. Soaring hearts used to sell wooden beds with 10-12 slats just like the Amish sell on the east coast. We bought 5 of the beds and the mattresses work well with them. These mattresses are like the traditional ones used in India and China and are very comfortable and give us a good night’s sleep without the chemical fumes. Unlike other spring and foam mattresses, these don’t transmit the motion of a spouse or child tossing or turning in the night. We easily spend 8-10 hours daily on these mattresses and they are still holding their shape well and will work well for another 9-10 years. You won’t know what you are missing during the night unless you use one of these.

Like being back in Japan

I can't begin to tell you how much I love my wood and cotton shiki. I used to spend a lot of time in Japan, and always loved sleeping on a shikibuton in a tatami room. Now I have exactly that setup at home and couldn't be happier. Yes, it is bulky and quite heavy, but that's what many of the traditional shikibutons are actually like. Other materials perhaps are lighter. I bought a second one and now use that in my van as well.
