Pure red
The bulb is outstanding because of its technical characteristics. I have three such bulbs from Block Blue Light—one in the bathroom, one in the hallway, and one in the bedroom. It creates a kind of red-light corridor if I wake up at night, allowing me to see where I’m going without turning on any light source that could compromise the rest of my sleep. 1. The fact that it produces pure/true red at the 630 nm wavelength is the essential idea. This means that although it is a light source, it has absolutely no effect on melatonin degradation. 2. The fact that it is flicker-free is another important aspect. Even though flicker is often imperceptible, it is always detected by the nervous system as physiological and psychological stress. 3. Even though it’s a pure red light bulb, the idea is not to have it shine directly into your eyes if you want to use it at night or as a night light. Through the eyelid, if it shines directly at you, you may perceive it as visually disturbing and it may delay falling asleep, even though it is 100% melatonin-friendly. It’s simply a perceptual stress caused by the light hitting your eyes. So the solutions are: position it to shine indirectly—for example, using a spot-style lamp aimed at a surface so the light returns indirectly and more softly through reflection; or place something like a shield (e.g., a panel) in front of it; or place it behind a large object—resulting in soft, indirect, diffused light.

Difficult to read by
Wanted this bulb to read in bed before going to sleep. Unfortunately it is really difficult to read the words on the page. I should have gone for the amber bulb.

Love them!
I have a bulb in each room, so before bed we turn them on. Love this to bath my baby before bed.
