It is a nice mute to have. Another review said it keeps tonal quality, I find that true. Not as low in volume as the artino I have, but better mute.

Sihon Wire Slide-on Violin Mute

I was overjoyed to find this mute at Fiddlershop! I used this same mute back in the 1960s when I played in college symphony orchestras. It "clips" onto the D String and A String behind the bridge; then, it slides effortlessly on and off the bridge for those times when a quick change to or from SORDINO (mute) arises in the music. All the other violinists were using them at the time. No last-minute frantic searches in your instrument case; you'll be glad to have it when those times come! I placed mine by loosening the D String and A String just enough to provide just a little extra space between those two strings behind the bridge. Once they were loosened, I just slipped it onto the strings, one at a time, and VOILA, you are ready to tune up your violin again in minutes. An in-place photo of this mute at the website would be worth a thousand words! The sound quality of the mute is a wonderful, rich tone, and it REALLY reduces the volume of the instrument. I sometimes use it just to enjoy the tone! Great to have when practicing, especially when others are trying to nap or concentrate on other things. I found that the volume reduction of this mute SURPASSES the reduction of all the others I have tried; PLUS, it does not stick up high on top of the bridge when in use, thus it does not obstruct my view of the bow as I am playing, like some of the rubber, wooden or metal mutes do when they are in place. The price is right and the results are amazing--give it a try!
