Perfect for starting
I recently purchased this violin to learn along side my son and am very impressed by the quality of everything, especially for the price point! Everything has been great, the violin looks, feels and, if my inexperienced fingers aren't touching the strings, sounds really good. I have not had any issues with the violin losing tune beyond what I would normally expect from any instrument with new strings, I would easily say its comparable to putting new strings on a guitar. The only comment I would say it that the mute doesn't seem to make very much difference, but that may be user error.

I would have given 5 stars because the violin is absolutely beautiful and everything has a place in the case and fits very nicely. However, our rosin was completely dry, was just a black rock wrapped in a cloth (no actual rosin on it). For a name that takes pride in their attention to detail, i see this as quite a big oversight. My daughter cant exactly play the instrument. Rosin is cheap, and we have some ordered, but it is a little disappointing.
