A lovely razor!
I took a while deliberating on the purchase of this razor on two counts: 1] cost 2] whether the .38mm blade gap would be efficient enough. I stared long and hard into the rabbit hole (I have many good-quality, efficient razors that I enjoy using on a daily basis; do I really need another? ''Yeah, but''. You know how it goes). Inevitably...
This is one stunning-looking razor, unlike any other in my collection. The polished bronze finish is a delight to behold, as is the matching stand. The engineering quality is first-class; and what 'machine markings' there may be (or not) certainly don't make their presence known.
As for that .38mm blade gap, I needn't have worried. This is one smooth operator, mild but efficient, and gave me a shave at least as good as any other [more 'aggressive'] razor I own: no redness, no irritation, just a darn good shave! And, unusually, I didn't feel the need for any post-shave balm - though I did use some out of habit.
Would I recommend this razor? In itself, as a daily shaver [especially on sensitive skin], absolutely. BUT... for newbies and inexperienced shavers - who may ultimately decide this kind of shaving is not for them (but give it time, and be patient) I would strongly recommend honing their skills on less-expensive razors - and there are plenty good ones out there to choose from - before splashing out £200 on a razor of this calibre. This one, I would suggest, is for the more experienced, the hobbyist, the collector. And, I am very glad I made the purchase!
Finally, a word for the good folk at Slickboys. Razors of this high-end calibre are not easy to find in the UK: Timeless, Blackland etc., so good for you taking the gamble and stocking them. And certainly not least, thank you ever so much for the expedient and efficient way the order was dealt with; and the follow-up enquiry to see if I was happy with the purchase. Long may it continue!
