These are lovely small plates (I got the 7" ones). To my eyes they're actually dark grey and a have a smooth but slightly porous finish. As a result you may find they need rather firm handwashing if you prefer not to to use a dishwasher.
That said, they're perfect for what I bought them for: small composed salads and deserts.
