Hi Tech is American made, with American spirit, quality & affordability
What can be said is this, first off I am a professional part time gem cutter, world class opal mainly. Across the 45 years that I've been using my 6 inch "all you need" lap-cab machine, the only parts I even require are the wheels. I normally make my own wheels for manufacturing diamonds for science, however Hi Tech has already got me covered for my small lap. If I decide to cut some star sapphire, or ruby material, yes that will advance the wear on any diamond cutting surface & the Hi Tech system will require some new cutting disks, the foam & plastic wheels are always perfect & the balance is acceptable. Purchasing the press on style disks is always a joy, easy & worth every penny. Still available now since my machine was new, 45 years ago. I have a few of every grit offered. About a dozen wheels. A set for the kids, a set for my club members & a set for me. Agates, opals & harder materials. I build most of my machines myself, including a facet machine, even a 20" wet saw from scratch. But the time I save sitting down on my coffee table watching TV using my 6" Hi Tech all you need, what can I say? It's a great way to enjoy the hobby, even professional results are easily acquired.

Essential Lapidary Polishing Wheels
I've been using my 8" slant lap from Hi-Tech for three years now. In these years, using the Rock/Mineral disk kit, I have polished approximately 2,000 stones to a mirror finish. I did add the 3000 grit pad to my repertoire. Because I often have to do major shaping of my stones, I have also added the 60, 80, 180, and 220-grit electroplated discs to my inventory. This is the only "rub" to this review. Using these discs does cause wear to the discs, so replacing the discs has to happen. Hi-Tech suggests replacing after approximately 200 stones. So, doing the math, you might see that I should have replaced my discs ten times. (I think I'm only at eight.) That can get expensive. The good news is, however, one can continue using the discs after the 200th stone. The discs still do the job; however, it will take more time per stone. Follow Hi-Tech's description of care for these disks. Also, I suggest buying your first two sets with the backing plates. I know more expenses there; however, if you plan, you might save money in the long run by rotating disc stock (assuming you can remove the discs from the plates-lol). Finally, Every interaction and order I've had with Hi-Tech has been of the highest quality. This is a superior company that wants us to succeed! Thanks, Hi-Tech!!!

Definitely recommend
The quality of the products is great. There is prompt delivery, great products and exemplary customer service. When I was ordering additional discs for my slant cabber I ordered the wrong size. I was able to communicate with someone there who made sure the wrong ones didn’t ship and they quickly refunded me.
